Strategy Puts Its Preferred Dividend on a Daily Clock

The Hashpoint for September 27, 2026

Bitcoin Hashpoint, September 27, 2026

Strategy asked its common stockholders on Friday to move the dividend on STRC and three sister preferreds from a semi-monthly schedule to a daily one, with a vote October 28 and a first record date of November 1. The rate does not change, and neither does the monthly reset that sets it. STRC closed the week at $98.54, $1.46 under par on day 137. Bitcoin holds $84,811.20 this morning, up 5.5% on the week, at 1.33 times the power-law floor. The company went after the symptom and left the mechanism alone.

Strategy puts the coupon on a daily clock

strc panel
STRC closed at $98.54, $1.46 under par, with a $12.00 annualized coupon yielding 12.18%.

Record dates would fall every calendar day and payment the next business day. STRC starts November 1, and STRD, STRF and STRK follow on January 1, 2027. Only common stockholders vote, so holders of the instrument this repairs have no say in it. Michael Saylor framed the change around price stability, liquidity and demand, and the company states plainly that rates and total payment obligations stay where they are.

Read what that concedes. An issuer redesigns the payment plumbing on a security trading below its stated value because the design keeps failing to hold that value. STRC moved to semi-monthly payments only in June, the same month it traded under $75, and a $2 billion repurchase authorization has propped the price since. Friday's filing is the third fix on the same wound in four months.

Hashpoint's reading of this instrument rests on a timing gap, and Friday narrowed the wrong half of it. Daily accrual should compress the sawtooth that carries STRC into every ex-dividend date and drops it after. The monthly rate reset stays untouched. When the real yield moves 51 basis points in a month, as it just did, the coupon that competes with it sits fixed until the first of the following month. No payment calendar reaches that lag.

Strategy holds 846,000 BTC at a $75,416 average, marking $71.75 billion this morning.

The September 21 filing still governs the balance sheet. Strategy holds 846,000 coins at a $75,416 average, so the position marks $71.75 billion at this price, $9,395 a coin above cost. That filing bought 950 coins for $75.7 million and retired 1,771,238 preferred shares for roughly $174 million in the same week, $2.30 into its own paper for every dollar into Bitcoin. No 8-K arrived over the weekend.

The year turns positive on the flow

spot etf daily net flows aggregate panel
Spot Bitcoin ETFs took $2.39 billion across the week and turned 2026 positive at $886.8 million.

Friday added $134.5 million, with IBIT taking $97.0 million, FBTC $49.3 million and BITB giving back $11.8 million. The week read $999.0 million, $714.7 million, $346.9 million, $190.7 million and $134.5 million, or $2.39 billion in five sessions with no negative day.

The figure that outlasts the week sits further back. Cumulative 2026 net flow crossed into positive territory on September 22 at $886.8 million, the first positive reading since May 26, from a $5.69 billion deficit on July 13. That is a $6.58 billion swing in ten weeks. IBIT carries $3.09 billion of this year's net while GBTC has shed $2.59 billion. Scale it before calling it a regime: 2025 brought $21.35 billion and 2024 brought $35.2 billion.

The 10-year eased 4 basis points to 5.17% while the real yield rose 5 basis points to 2.88%.

The curve gave the coin a quiet Friday and charged it anyway. The 10-year eased about four basis points to 5.17% and the dollar index slipped 0.31% to 101.031, pausing a five-session climb. The 10-year TIPS real yield rose five basis points to 2.88% and holds 51 basis points of gain on the month. H.15 puts the 2-year at 4.87% and the 30-year at 5.47% through Thursday, and futures price roughly 66% odds of another quarter-point increase next month.

Price and the network both firm

btc price and power law bands panel
Bitcoin at $84,811.20 reads 1.33 times the power-law floor and 0.56 times the median.

Bitcoin ranged from $83,834.95 to $84,816.86 over the last day at a $1.704 trillion market value and 57.3% dominance. Against the bands this dashboard last published on September 17, price reads 1.33 times a $63,945 floor and 0.56 times a $152,251 median, up from 1.31 and 0.55 yesterday. The quarter ends Wednesday with Bitcoin about 43.5% above its July low near $58,500.

Those band figures carry a ten-session warning. Every dashboard endpoint refused again this morning on a network failure inside this publication's automation, not a fault at the site, so treat 1.33 as an upper bound.

The hashrate estimator reads 1.03 zettahashes and the October 3 retarget flips back to plus 0.29%.

The hashrate estimator reads 1.03 zettahashes, up 21.88% on the month, at 72% of the February 15 peak. Yesterday the same estimator read 892 exahashes and projected the first negative retarget of this series. Blocks now average 9 minutes 58 seconds and the October 3 adjustment estimates plus 0.29% to 133.15 trillion against difficulty of 132.76 trillion. Only the retarget settles this, because the daily estimator swings too far to use.

The Bull View

  • CoinMarketCap: Spot ETF flows turned positive for 2026 at $886.8 million, a $6.58 billion turnaround since July 13.
  • Bitcoin Magazine: Six sessions of creations brought $2.8 billion into the funds.
  • The Block: Strategy proposed daily dividends across four preferreds to support par stability, vote October 28.
  • UseTheBitcoin: Bitcoin gained about 43.5% in the third quarter, its second-best on record after 2017.
  • 24/7 Wall St: Roughly $750 million of shorts closed above $86,000.

The bulls lean on a flow ledger that erased ten weeks of damage and on a quarter that ran 43.5% while the bond market fought it.

The Bear View

  • Trading Economics: The 10-year holds 5.17% and the 30-year 5.47%, with roughly 66% odds priced for an October increase.
  • Trading Economics: The 10-year TIPS real yield rose to 2.88%, up 51 basis points on the month.
  • The Block: Bitget revised its hot-wallet breach up to $387.5 million against a $464 million protection fund.
  • 24/7 Wall St: Bitcoin fell from $87,397 to about $84,700 on declining volume, down roughly 3% for 2026.
  • Farside Investors: Friday's $134.5 million came to 13.5% of Monday's $999.0 million.

The bears lean on the price of riskless money and on a flow recovery that looks thin beside either prior year. Their strongest figure stays the real yield at 2.88%, the bar every asset without a coupon has to clear.

The Hashpoint read

daily synthesis panel
Price at 1.33 times the floor, STRC at $98.54, and 2026 ETF flows at plus $886.8 million.

Price sits at 1.33 times the power-law floor and 0.56 times the median, a notch above yesterday and inside the range it has held for six sessions. Friday's proposal is the most useful thing Strategy has said about this instrument all quarter, and it marks the clearest admission yet that the design has a defect. A company confident that a monthly variable rate would hold a security at par would not need a $2 billion buyback and two payment-schedule changes in five months. Daily accrual should help, because it smooths the dividend-capture sawtooth. It does not shorten the interval between a rate move in the Treasury market and the coupon that answers it, which runs up to thirty-one days and which this publication reads as the structural impairment in the largest institutional bid.

The bulls get the flow turn right and its size wrong. Crossing back above zero for the year says the mandates that left in the spring came back, and an $886.8 million figure against 2025's $21.35 billion says they came back small. The bears get the real yield right and the exchange hack wrong. A $387.5 million breach covered by a $464 million protection fund moved no structural number on this page, while a real yield at 2.88% sets the hurdle for every coin and every share of preferred.

Three dates decide the next reading. STRC's ex-dividend and record dates fall Wednesday alongside the August PCE report, and a close holding $98.00 through them with the 10-year above 5.10% says corporate cash beats the curve. The rate resets Thursday, and a coupon landing near the July level says the escalator mechanism never fired in the cycle this publication spent two weeks watching for it. Payrolls land Friday at a consensus of 100,000, and a hot print lifts October's hike odds above 66% while the coupon waits until November.
