Fed Odds Halve While Long Bonds Hit 2004 Highs

The Hashpoint for September 30, 2026

Bitcoin Hashpoint, September 30, 2026

Traders cut the odds of an October rate increase to 51% from 70% yesterday, and the 30-year Treasury bond closed at 5.60% anyway, its highest since 2004. The two-year fell eight basis points to 4.88% on the weakest consumer confidence reading since April 2014, while the 10-year touched 5.27%, a level last printed in the first half of 2007. STRC closed at $99.56, forty-four cents under par and the narrowest gap of its ninety-four-session run below it, with the ex-dividend date landing today and the rate reset tomorrow. Bitcoin trades at $83,727, up 0.1% from Monday's close, at 1.29 times a power-law floor of $64,697 and 0.54 times a median of $154,042.

The floor moved, and the price did not

Bitcoin at $83,727 reads 1.294 times the power-law floor of $64,697 and 0.544 times the median of $154,042.

The dashboard answered this morning for the first time since September 17, ending twelve editions that carried a $63,945 floor under a staleness warning. The live floor computes to $64,697.48, the median to $154,041.61 and the ceiling to $462,124.82, all as of yesterday's close. The floor gained $752 across those twelve sessions while price held flat, so the 1.31 multiple this publication printed yesterday falls to 1.29 on arithmetic alone. Cycle position reads 0.1311, the lower third of the band.

on chain network state hashrate over time panel
Hashrate reads 955 EH/s, up 15.03% over thirty days, with difficulty at 132.76 trillion.

Miners keep adding work. The network runs at 954.66 exahashes on Monday's observation, up 15.03% over thirty days, at difficulty of 132.76 trillion and block 969,209. Saturday's retarget sits 487 blocks out at an estimated plus 0.31%. Cycle four stands 61.5% complete with 80,791 blocks to the April 2028 halving.

The curve stopped answering to the Fed

macro context with btc price panel
The 30-year closed at 5.60% and the 10-year at 5.27% on a day traders cut October hike odds to 51%.

Two numbers moved in opposite directions yesterday, and the pair matters more than either one. Consumer confidence collapsed to 81.9 from 88.6 against an 89.0 consensus, its lowest since April 2014, and August job openings came in at 7.079 million against a 7.23 million forecast. John Williams said that "with the policy action we took at our September meeting, there is no need for urgency," and futures cut October's hike odds from roughly 70% to 51%.

The long end ignored all of it. The 30-year closed at 5.60%, its highest since 2004, with an intraday print of 5.621% in KuCoin's log. Michael Barr said further increases are likely needed, though a market that just priced out half a hike does not lift thirty-year paper on one governor's sentence. The 10-year TIPS real yield reads 2.92% and has added about 51 basis points across September, and the dollar index gives back 0.15% to 101.22.

Today supplies August core PCE with headline inflation expected at 3.7%, the third estimate of second-quarter GDP, ADP employment against a 70,000 forecast, and Chicago PMI, all into quarter end. Payrolls follow Friday at a 129,000 consensus.

STRC arrives at par with forty-four cents to spare

strc panel
STRC closed at $99.56, $0.44 under par, on session 94 below it, yielding 12.05% on the $12.00 declared coupon.

The instrument printed its best close of the run. STRC settled at $99.56 on Monday's $99.10, leaving forty-four cents to par and an effective yield of 12.05% against the declared 12.0% rate. The dashboard reclassified the at-the-market state from shut to marginal. Ninety-four consecutive sessions have settled under par, and the live data corrects a figure these pages carried all September: the last close at or above $100 fell on May 14, not May 11, so today is day 138 rather than day 141.

Today carries the ex-dividend and record dates on the $0.500 semi-monthly coupon, payment arrives October 15, and the rate resets tomorrow.

strategy purchases panel
Strategy holds 847,666 BTC at a $75,437 average, worth $70.97 billion at this morning's price.

No new 8-K reached the wire overnight, so the September 28 filing stands. Strategy holds 847,666 coins at an aggregate $63.95 billion and a $75,437 average, which marks at $70.97 billion this morning, $8,290 a coin and $7.03 billion above cost. MSTR closed yesterday at $157.14, down 1.87% from $160.13, with a later indication near $153.51.

Nine sessions of creations, and the size keeps falling

spot etf daily net flows aggregate panel
Spot Bitcoin ETFs took $66.2 million Tuesday, a ninth straight session of creations, against $998.95 million eight sessions earlier.

Spot funds took $66.2 million yesterday, a ninth consecutive session of net creations. IBIT accounted for $51.1 million and ARKB for $33.2 million, BITB gave back $18.1 million, and FBTC, GBTC and MSBT all printed zero. The sequence since September 21 runs $998.95 million, $714.7 million, $346.9 million, $190.7 million, $134.5 million, $31.0 million, and now $66.2 million. Cumulative net flow reaches $57.713 billion, and the supply pressure index reads 2.804, so institutional buyers absorbed 37,849 coins over thirty days against 13,500 coins of issuance.

Yesterday's print doubled Monday's and still measures 6.6% of the Monday before that. One of six S-curve tripwires sits on watch, the SPI above three with exchange balances falling, reading 2.80 against a thirty-day drain of 21,124 coins.

The Bull View

  • CoinDesk: Bitcoin heads for its first positive September after a positive August since 2013, up about 7.3% on the month and more than 40% on the quarter.
  • CoinGape: The quarter runs 43.1% higher, the best since the fourth quarter of 2024, with accumulation-address holdings at record levels.
  • Farside Investors: A ninth straight session of creations added $66.2 million, led by IBIT at $51.1 million.
  • Babypips: October hike odds fell to 51% from 70% after confidence and job openings both missed.
  • The Block: Strategy bought 1,665 coins for $143 million and lifted its treasury to 847,666.

The bulls lean on a quarter better than 40% and on a Federal Reserve that just lost half its next increase. Their strongest number stays the quarter.

The Bear View

  • KuCoin: The 10-year touched 5.293%, the highest since June 2007, and the 30-year 5.621%, the highest since June 2002.
  • Babypips: The 30-year closed above 5.6% after Barr said further increases are likely needed.
  • CoinDesk: Consumer confidence fell to 81.9, its lowest since April 2014, from 88.6.
  • CoinDesk: The MOVE index of bond volatility holds above 100, near its highs for the year, with oil above $90.
  • Blockchain.news: Decelerating flows plus yields above 5.20% could retest $74,919.
  • CryptoTimes: October 2025 broke the seasonal streak at about minus 3.7%.

The bears lean on the price of long money and on a consumer who just cracked. Their strongest number stays the real yield at 2.92%.

The Hashpoint read

daily synthesis panel
Price at 1.29 times the floor, the 30-year at 5.60%, STRC forty-four cents under par, and the reset tomorrow.
fear and greed panel
Market mood reads 73 in Greed while the structural gauge reads 37 in Fear, a 36-point gap now in its forty-second day.

Yesterday separated the capital-pull argument from the Federal Reserve, and that cuts against this publication's framing as much as it supports it. For three weeks these pages read a rising 10-year as a tightening story with a policy driver behind it. Traders removed half of October's increase and the long bond made a new twenty-two-year high in the same session. The rate that competes with Bitcoin now rises on term premium and fiscal supply, which no pause reverses.

The bulls get the Fed right and the discount rate wrong. A cooling labor market does strengthen the case for a fixed-supply asset, and it does nothing to the 5.60% a holder of thirty-year paper collects for taking no credit risk. The bears get the rate right and the mechanism half wrong, because their case still runs through Federal Reserve tightening while yesterday's curve points at the bond market's own appetite.

The escalator-lag thesis meets its cleanest test tomorrow. STRC sits forty-four cents under par on day 138, repaired by roughly $1.28 billion of corporate buybacks rather than by anything in the rate environment. The gauges frame the same split from the other side: market mood reads 73 in Greed on https://www.google.com/url?q=http://alternative.me&source=gmail&ust=1790851086107000&sa=E's index against the dashboard's structural composite at 37 in Fear, a 36-point gap now in its forty-second day, with band position at the sixteenth percentile of its own history.

A reset landing near the July rate confirms that the escalation mechanism never fired through a September that added half a point to the 10-year and 51 basis points to the real yield, leaving the throttle argument to rest on the September 28 filing's funding ratio alone. A reset that steps up says the mechanism works and took ninety-four sessions to notice. Payrolls arrive Friday at a 129,000 consensus, and the instrument that answers for that number cannot speak until November 1.
