The Hashpoint for October 21, 2026

Bitcoin Hashpoint, October 21, 2026
The box's supply pressure index crossed 2.0 this morning at 2.19, and its own arithmetic gives the reading one day to live. Strategy and the spot funds bought 29,600 coins over thirty days against 13,500 mined, and the funds alone now take 2.01 times issuance, up from 1.56 times yesterday. Both figures now carry Monday's $526.7 million and still carry September 21's $998.95 million, which leaves the window in tomorrow's run. Tuesday added $23.2 million. Bitcoin traded at $83,331 on Coinbase at 6:05 this morning, 1.264 times the $65,928 power-law floor and 0.531 times the $156,971 median.
ETF flows and supply pressure
Tuesday's print missed the bar this publication set yesterday. Farside's figures, as FinanceFeeds reported them, show $23.2 million of net creations: IBIT took $29.9 million, FBTC $3.6 million, and Bitwise's BITB redeemed $10.3 million. Cumulative net flow sits near $57.50 billion, and BigGo puts October at $65.1 million negative month to date.
On flat flows, Hashpoint arithmetic puts tomorrow's thirty-day net near $1.27 billion once September 21 leaves and Tuesday enters. That works out to about 511 coins a day at Tuesday's close, 1.13 times issuance, and pulls supply pressure back toward 1.4. The index reads 2.19 today because of a session that happened a month ago.

STRC and Strategy
The preferred closed Tuesday at $98.71, up nine cents from Monday's $98.62, and the discount narrowed to $1.29. The box counts 109 sessions below par and 159 calendar days since the May 14 close at $100. Effective yield runs 12.16% on the 12.00% declared rate, and the box reads issuance as closed.
The common did the moving. MSTR closed at $142.72, up 4.93% by StockAnalysis's count. A 4.93% gain in the common against a 0.09% gain in the preferred puts the ratio near 54 to 1; the September 21 session ran 35 to 1. Hashpoint's own analysis reads that gap as the repricing lag at work: the preferred answers to a monthly rate decision, and November's already happened.
Strategy's October 16 filing set the November rate at 12.00% and said management will recommend holding it there until STRC shows "sustained, healthy trading near $100 per share." The box's reading of the escalator rule says 12.25%. The company has chosen to hold the coupon and spend cash on the price: $193.1 million of buybacks in the week to October 18, with $447.3 million of USD Cash left at that date, per the October 19 filing. November dividends move to a daily schedule if common holders approve the change at the October 28 special meeting.
Holdings stand at 848,517 coins at $75,446. No 8-K landed in the last 24 hours.

Macro and yields
The ten-year eased to 5.12% on Tuesday's FRED print from 5.15%, and Trading Economics holds it at 5.12% this morning. The two-year sat flat at 4.79% and the thirty-year eased to 5.42%. The real yield slipped two basis points to 2.76%. The dollar index lost 0.32% to 101.66, and WTI fell to $97.58, per FXStreet, as conflicting reports of a U.S. and Iran deal crossed the tape.
Bitcoin rose 1.34% on the close as the ten-year fell three basis points, a direction that fits the thesis. The Fed stays in blackout until the October 27 to 28 meeting, where prediction markets price 84% to 88% odds of no change and about 78% odds of a December hike, per Cryptoticker.
Market mood, the Crypto Fear and Greed Index from https://www.google.com/url?q=http://alternative.me&source=gmail&ust=1792665180336000&sa=E, eased to 55 in Greed from 59. The Hashpoint structural composite slipped to 32 in Fear from 33, so the gap narrowed to 23 points from 26.

Power law and network
Tuesday closed at $82,938, the fifth straight close above $80,000, and the coin sits 1.16% lower over seven days by Cryptoticker's count. The box reads hashrate at 1,152 exahash per second, up 13.4% over thirty days. CoinWarz holds difficulty at 140.58 trillion and estimates a 5.82% rise to 148.76 trillion at 18:52 UTC on October 29. Block 972,455 leaves 77,545 blocks to the halving, cycle four 63.07% complete.

The Daily Experiment
This is the Hashpoint's own experiment, run each morning on the box's own data. If ETFs keep the last 30 days' pace, they take 903 BTC a day, 2.01 times the 450 mined, and would absorb 100,000 BTC in 111 days (flows September 21 to October 19, priced at the October 20 close).
Yesterday it read 700 coins a day; Monday's $526.7 million drove the entire change. For the if-clause to hold past tomorrow, the funds would need to replace September 21's $998.95 million, and Tuesday supplied $23.2 million. On flat flows the ratio falls to about 1.13 times in tomorrow's run. The STRC row's 12.25% reflects the box's reading of the rule, not a company statement. The ninety-day link between the ten-year and Bitcoin stays weak, an r-squared of 0.043 across 61 sessions, so the rate story runs through the preferred more than through the coin.

The Bull View
- The Block: BlackRock's IBIT drew $665 million Monday, its largest single day since October 7, 2025, lifting net assets to $66.37 billion
- Bloomberg, via Yahoo Finance: JPMorgan Asset Management added Bitcoin to its long-term assumptions for the first time, with a base case near 10% a year for a decade
- Decrypt: BlackRock filed for a "buffer" Bitcoin ETF in the same week IBIT took in $665 million
- Bitcoin Magazine: Switzerland's financial regulator approved the country's first Bitcoin ETF
- TradingKey: Strategy's common rose 5.63% intraday Tuesday, with the $3 billion preferred buyback authorization cited as the catalyst
The bull case leans on the largest fund manager's product returning to size and on a major bank writing Bitcoin into its long-run return tables.
The Bear View
- FinanceFeeds: the spot funds took just $23.2 million Tuesday, with Bitwise's BITB redeeming $10.3 million and the ether funds negative a fifth straight day
- Bloomberg, via Yahoo Finance: the same JPMorgan work called it "premature" to treat Bitcoin as a diversifier and assumed 55% annual volatility
- Decrypt: Mt. Gox pushed its repayment deadline to October 31, 2027, with $2.8 billion of Bitcoin still to distribute
- Caleb & Brown: MSCI's screen on digital-asset-heavy companies applies from November 30, and JPMorgan puts Strategy's potential outflows at up to $2.8 billion
- FX.co: Bitcoin touched $83,000 on reports of a U.S. and Iran deal, Iranian outlets disputed the reports by morning, and Brent rose 1.4%
- Bitcoin Magazine: Strive launched a preferred stock with a 15% dividend, three points above STRC's 12%
The bear case leans on a flow that faded after one day and on index and supply overhangs that each carry a dated deadline.
The Hashpoint read
Bitcoin sits at 1.264 times its floor and 0.531 times its median, $17,404 above the floor at this morning's print. The ten-year eased three basis points to 5.12% and STRC rose nine cents to $98.71, so both standing numbers moved a little toward the bulls without crossing a line.
The bulls have the institutions right. IBIT's biggest day in a year and JPMorgan's return tables mark real changes in who plans to hold the coin. They have the flow wrong when they read it as a trend. Tuesday's $23.2 million says Monday belonged to one fund on one day, and the 2.01 times reading belongs to a window that loses its anchor tomorrow.
The bears have the preferred right. A 4.93% day in the common moved STRC nine cents, the company holds the coupon at 12.00% against the box's 12.25% rule reading, and its cash covers a little over two more weeks of buybacks at the October pace. They have the price wrong so far: five closes above $80,000.
Three markers carry into Thursday. Tomorrow's box run: ETF absorption near 1.13 times and supply pressure near 1.4 once September 21 leaves. STRC: a close at or above $99.00 with the ten-year near 5.12% says the buyback sets the price, and a close under $98.00 says $193.1 million of repurchases bought a week. October 28: common holders vote on daily STRC dividends at 10:00 a.m. Eastern and the Fed decides that afternoon, the first date on which both halves of the thesis report together.
